NIS Extends UK Passport Intervention Exercise To October 30

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 30, 2026, citing a high turnout and sustained demand from Nigerians in the diaspora.

The exercise, which was originally scheduled to end earlier, will now run from October 6 to October 30, 2026, the service said in a public announcement.

“In view of the high turnout and sustained demand by Nigerians for the Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom, the Nigeria Immigration Service, acting on the directive of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has extended the exercise to run from 6th to 30th October, 2026,” the NIS stated.

The extension is expected to create additional capacity for new applications, renewals and other pending passport processes for eligible Nigerians resident in the UK.

The UK passport intervention was designed to bring Nigerian passport services closer to diaspora citizens, reduce logistical burdens, and clear backlogs in London, Manchester and other cities.

Earlier in September, the NIS had already extended the London and Manchester phases from an initial September 19 closing date to October 3, 2026, after processing 1,477 applicants within the first four days of the exercise.

More than half of those 1,477 enrolments had already resulted in passports being produced and dispatched to applicants’ addresses, the service disclosed in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi.

Applicants are required to book appointments through the official website of the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom and attend with all mandatory documents, including application forms, payment receipts, appointment slips and old passports for renewals or reissues.

The NIS has repeatedly stressed that the process is fully automated and cashless, with standard fees of $162 for a five‑year passport and $242 for a 10‑year passport, and warned applicants against paying extra charges to third‑party operators.

Further details on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures are expected to be communicated through the official channels of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria High Commission in the UK.
