2027: Sowore, Magashi Launch Nationwide Campaign Structure as AAC Unveils Council

ABUJA, Nigeria — The African Action Congress (AAC) has formally inaugurated its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council to coordinate nationwide political activities for its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Haruna Magashi.

The party announced the development on Friday, October 9, in a statement jointly signed by its Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena.

According to the statement, the newly established council will oversee political strategy, grassroots mobilisation, communications, election operations and resource management as the party prepares for the presidential contest.

Abdullahi Usman has been appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while Juwon Sanyaolu will serve as Secretary.

The leadership structure also includes deputy directors responsible for political strategy, diaspora engagement and resource mobilisation.

To coordinate campaign activities, the AAC has established 10 national directorates covering policy development, grassroots organising, labour and civil society relations, publicity, digital communications, technology, electoral operations, finance, legal compliance and administration.

The party said its organisational network would extend beyond major cities into local government areas, wards and polling units, supported by volunteers, political organisers and polling agents.

A central component of the campaign strategy will be the SOWORENOW digital application, which the party said has already supported its political mobilisation efforts.

Rather than replacing the existing digital platform, the newly inaugurated council will integrate online engagement with physical campaign activities and community outreach.

The AAC explained that the approach was intended to strengthen communication with supporters, improve coordination and expand its political presence nationwide.

In outlining its political objectives, the party said the 2027 presidential contest should address broader questions about Nigeria's governance and political direction.

“The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the statement said.

The party also criticised the country's existing political establishment, arguing that Nigerians required a different approach to political leadership and public administration.

It described the inauguration as the beginning of a more extensive mobilisation exercise designed to reach communities across the country, including rural areas that often receive less attention during national political campaigns.

Sowore, a journalist and political activist, previously contested Nigeria's presidential elections in 2019 and 2023 under the AAC platform.

His latest presidential bid comes as political parties intensify organisational preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has included Sowore and Magashi on its final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the election.

The AAC maintained that its campaign would combine technology, community engagement and nationwide political coordination as it seeks to expand its electoral presence.

The party also called for greater public involvement in the democratic process, arguing that political change required participation beyond party leadership and elected officials.

The inauguration represents a further organisational step for the AAC as Nigeria's political parties prepare for the 2027 presidential contest.
