The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has written its name into world entertainment history as the premiere of the highly anticipated feature film Black Market officially shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film premiere screening. Over 51,000 cinema lovers, industry executives, and international cultural delegates gathered at the historic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos for the historic screening.
A Record-Breaking Cinematic Spectacle
The cinematic event surpassed the previous global world record, drawing an unprecedented sea of movie enthusiasts to an open-air amphitheater setup featuring monumental multi-directional LED screens and concert-grade acoustic engineering. Starring acclaimed screen actress Omowunmi Dada alongside an ensemble cast of veteran and emerging talents, Black Market explores themes of urban resilience, human dignity, and socio-economic survival within African metropolitan centers.
Guinness World Records adjudicators stationed across official turnstiles verified attendee accreditation counts, presenting the commemorative citation to the production directors amidst fireworks and emotional celebrations.
Global Validation for Nollywood
Cultural critics view the achievement as a defining testament to the immense cultural power and mobilization capability of Nigerian storytelling. Nollywood has transitioned from low-budget home video roots into a multi-million-dollar industry commanding global streaming dominance and setting international box office milestones.
